Just changed recently, within the past month or two.

Rapid has been doing dispensaries for years. Even with the change in regulatory environment, there are landmines. For example, the IRS still has a position that because medical marijuana sales are not legal at the federal level, dispensaries cannot deduct their "cost of sales" - Pot! - as a business expense. You also have to check state laws and licensing requirements, any local laws about distance from the storefront to a school etc. Call TJ or Maria in business development, 240-514-2000.

That is a major breakthrough for that industry than. There was a program about retailers in Colorado a month or so ago about how they had to keep massive amounts of cash in vaults and high security due to the Federal banks not able to open bank accounts for that bz since it's is only approved on a state level vs federal. If the Feds changed that to allow it's one more step into that industry getting more legitimate and now I can see all the ach funders chasing that segment-

^^I live in CO and am very in tune with what is going on. Nothing has changed her. THere was paper issued saying that they are looking into it but it is still a quagmire.

The only way you are getting a bank account anywhere is if it is non descript. If you legal business name is 420 green bud, that wont work. If your legal is healthy lifestyles then you can get away with it for a while. Problem is once they start seeing tons of cash coming in, they might do an audit of the account.

Same is true on the merchant processing side. Only way to accept cards is using cashless atm and debit processing. Off shore accounts work to, but i would not set up a merchant with that. If the funds get held, probably not going to see that money, ever.

It is still illegal according to V/MC.
