    ahhhhhh...I have a prequalification application that I fill out when they are on the phone,the Financial Data. I do not have their signature, so I do not have their credit but i ask them to the best of their ability what do they think it is ( 50% are wrong ).

    I can get 3-10 a day. And the same for me ,some I hold onto, some i tell to send the true application and documents

    I saw a script from a company that said to take the application right over the phone, I thought who in the heck would ever do this lol

    I see now how that could work.

    I usually do not go for a choke hold on the first phone call, but the guys on my team, when I was new a year ago ( if I was going to drop 1 or 2 % on a sale) used to Tell me I need to go to kentucky fried chicken and fill out an application for employment.

    Id stomp my foot and go back in and close with out dropping.

    We do like each other, men/salespeople like to tease women for some unknown reason ..and yes I am a woman

    Great Post Karen,

    I've been a business development specialist for 30 years, with the vast majority of it in financial services. We launched Funding Strategy Partners in 2008 with $1MM in investment capital and it was my job to deliver the clients. No script, no UCC leads (don't think there was such a thing then, if so I was unaware), no real plan. I started by Googling (kinda like Yellow Pages) and listening to what my audience was telling me they wanted, and what they absolutely did not not want, then adjusted my message accordingly.

    I think there is wisdom in the suggestions that some people are making here to work smarter, not harder. Not sure if more phone calls is the answer, necessarily.

    Understanding what your client really wants, knowing how to grab their attention and once you have it (even if only for 30 seconds), providing them with genuine value that pierces through all the bull**** they hear every day will separate you from the crowd.
