    Question Syndication vs Direct

Honest question here for the veterans -

What are the key benefits of funding on your own rather than just syndicating and leaving all the admin work up to the funding partner?
If you're not giving up too much to get it done, to me I think it'd be worth it to just syndicate. Are there not so obvious things I'm overlooking besides ego?

Appreciate the input I've been around this space a few 24hours but when it comes to syndication - the moving parts of it are still a foreign concept. Why not be a super ISO and syndicate a bunch of deals, which are on your own paper, which are being underwritten by somebody else's staff, and risk analysis being presented to you to decide if its right for your investors or not?

Direct Lending seems to present the issue of higher overhead and not that much higher reward - Do I have this all messed up?

    Appreciate the input

I guess it depends on how much capital you have to invest and the experience of your team. If you have industry veterans who know how to underwrite and a ton of cash, I'd opt to become a direct funder. If your capital is limited and you have little industry knowledge, then syndication is the way to go. It allows to diversify your risk and participate in a lot of deals and you don't have the headache of dealing with the administrative minutiae and overhead.
