I want to know the weight that social media is given. 1 out of 8,000 factors seems like it could be pretty meaningless, but it gives a lender a selling point and material for the media and press to write about.

It depends on alot of factors... a companies regression analysis is what gives weight to the 8,000 factors in big data. It also depends on Industry type... while in the small business lending sector it may not provide much weight but if you are a lender to consumers i think it would hold more weight than you think.. from the amount of time the account has been established, the amount of friends, the email associated with the account, the phone numbers people put in, what their post history represents, when they stated they started a new job or added a job history to their profile, their education history.
I know if a company has a facebook page that we are looking into funding we do consider the customers feedback and the amount of activity they are doing. For instance a Spa or Salon should have a healthy following and regular post with specials. A restaurant that provides entertainment should have an entertainment schedule or post about who is playing that Thursday night. Signs of a growing business or an active business.
