I was on a trip abroad last year in late November. I initiated a transfer from my credit union through fidelity.com on the very first day of the trip. The funds showed up in the CMA the next day, but were not available for a full 9 calendar days, a period of time which included Thanksgiving & the day after.

This was a massive inconvenience as we needed to withdraw cash from ATMs while in 3rd world countries.

I just did another transfer from the CU on April 2nd. Again, it showed up the next day, but the funds are not available until the 9th. I bank with many financial institutions, and I have never seen one delay the availability of funds by so much. What is the reason for the delay?
