may be time to look into splitting up companies like facebook, amazon, and google

Whether this statement is true or not, there was never going to be a sustainable business model of changing one letter of a major public company name and then pushing it like it's your own.
As far as splitting up, ironically.... working with Facebook, most of the time we have no idea what 95% of what the other teams in the company are doing, except what's reported publicly, or if it impacts the project we're working on. They keep us pretty insulated.
