I just found out how Trump knows Jon.

Jared Kushner's eldest sister is named Nikki. Her father is Charles also just got pardoned by Trump, he was convicted for tax evasion and witness tampering and cyberstalking during a divorce. (Note: Christie was the prosecutor.)

When Nikkie was ready for high school, her father couldn't find the perfect high school for her, so he opened one and called it Kushner High School (Rae Kushner Yeshiva High School / Yeshivat HaTichonit Beit Yosef). Jon was in Nikkie's class from elementary school through high school.
