Either we clean up the industry from the inside, or "someone" will try to fix it from the outside

its a lot more than you think ,because even the honest companies can have one bad employee doing it.

How many of you were offered the hard drive of a funders full database a couple of years ago?

Wish you baited him a bit more to find out which funders he's doing this with... Obviously everyone knows this happens in the industry given that everyone's merchants start getting inundated with calls after a file is submitted to funders. But soliciting backdoor relationships through a cold linkedin reach out is stupid. My guess is that you need to have some sort of personal / strong connection to get that done, not a cold call

Thanks for the call out though. Very needed in this industry

All companies in financial services should have outside business disclosure rules for all employees. All employees should disclose any and all companies owned by them, spouses, and immediate family members that could cause a conflict of interest. Financial reporting and compliance audits on related companies should be conducted on a regular basis.

Every firm I have ever worked for, owned, or managed has done this. If any employee was caught "steeling" business from the firm they were immediately terminated, charges brought against them, an reported to industry associations.

Definitely a good start to see what conflicts of interest your employees and arms-length relatives have but how can you safeguard against random solicitation like this?

I have had many people ask me what I do with my old declines, but no one has been brazen enough to tell me that they want to cut the broker out to my face.

It is really simple. Hire the right employees and conduct proper surveillance of their activities. If an employee goes off the reservation, terminate them immediately.

He already took down his linkedin profile. Only 3 others that work for that company have LKD profiles

I cannot count how many times I've been approached with this. Comes with the territory.
