Royalties "Facotring"
I have a merchant who's a startup. They're getting close to doing $1mm in net revenue the first year. What they're doing is factoring royalties that are due to songwriters:
- Songwriters are owed $600k for royalties paid on their music (Spotify, for example)
- They need cash now, so they sell the next 6 months of revenue streams that they are guaranteed payment for, for a discount
- Lender forwards them 80-85% of it and takes the rest (buying it at a discount)
- They need minimum 200-300k per deal to make them work
There's also the option they're working on for ongoing purchases, for all future revenue, but they're still working on the model.
Kevin, thank you for the idea you sent me (family office), I just don't have all of the family offices on my fingertips. Maybe someone out there does? Send me an email....
