Anytime someone asks a funder for a payoff letter the funder's alarms start going off. The reason for that is because that's what's usually needed in order to get a stack, and needless to say funders hate getting stacked. When I was at the broker fair there was a panel of 4 CEO's discussing various things about MCA. One thing that stuck out the most was when David Gilbert (National's CEO) stressed how much he hated it when companies stack National.

Hence, the reason why you're having difficulty getting the payoff letter.
