I read the title and I thought wow, my husband would; then I read the article and that was genius! Kudos to them, that is a great twist on crowd funding!

Definitely not new. SmallKnot did this as effectively as you're ever going to do it. Customer acquisition is a killer. Also - only 1 in 7 campaigns close - if under $10,000.
