The secret to his success is that he just did things differently. He came into a crowded and fiercely competitive market and won - really fast.
He didn't "change" processing. There's no real innovation here... He just re-packaged it, and changed how it was marketed, and sometimes that's just enough to seal off a competitive edge... that coupled with unbridled, naked aggression.
