Just have him order his credit reports and dispute all the negative accounts as "not mine", and maybe one or two of them might get temporarily removed. That's basically what you're paying someone to do anyway to "fix" credit.

Steve, please don't give a reference and afterwards when you get caught hedge yourself and just say "buyer beware." The entire point of this forum is to give UPDATED referrals that people can trust, not just random advertisements for funders who "say" on the forum that they can do it.
