Real Names
Just a thought... what % of people in this industry do you think use their real names?
And what are the best fake names you've seen?

I hear -- its not only in our industry. for decades many large jewelers went under fake names (safety reasons)
.. BTW most Jewish (but can be in other ethnic groups) have longer first names that make it hard on many to pronounce correctly so they will take Shmaryahu / Menchahem/ other e. groups ... Maximiliano /Guadalupe and shorten to sam/mo/max/ etc etc... Last names (unless for security reasons) i could never make sense of it... big difference between fake name and nicknames and switching first name to something more pronounceable to switching last name to hide whatever

depends on two variables
1.) how bad is your name going to sound to american business owners
and
2.) how awful is your reputation within the industry

Always fun when somebody calls out of the blue using a fake name, you find out what their real name, and the discover their arrest record or securities infractions.

I once had a potential investor come in who used an alias, but we didn't know it at the time. Found out his real name, and he had a rap sheet a mile long.. including being a sex predator who solicited a 16 year old off the internet for sex. He is now listed in my cell under Molester Investor, lol

back in my trading days there were two very senior traders for a prominent investment bank: Richard Wunderlich and Richard Holden. Yes-their real names. Both preferred to be called "****".

I use my mother's maiden name for my last name after a client came after me a few years ago and I didn't come out unscathed. We took a lot of precautions after that, including names.

Very simple- You're servicing hundreds of thousands merchants nationwide who many you don't know through a whole in the wall (some in very very close proximity)- Many who you come to find out have extensive criminal backgrounds, etc.
Would you want them finding you on social media with children, friends, etc.? I wouldn't.
Not that I would be hiding anything, but too much exposure.
World is too crazy these days.
